Blocking Images on Google

Article #: Product: Version:
KB- Guardian

Summary:

This article shows you how to set the Smoothwall to block specific images on the Google Image search results.

Problem:

Even with ‘Force SafeSearch’ switched on, sometimes it might not filter out some inappropriate images.

Solution:

To make this work successfully, there are three steps involved:

  1. Set up a HTTPS Decrypt and Inspect policy:
    1. Go to Guardian > HTTPS inspection > Policy wizard.
    2. Create your new policy:
      • Who: Everyone*
      • What: Web Search, Content Delivery
      • Where: Everywhere*
      • When: Always*
      • Action: Decrypt and inspect
      • Make sure you place the policy at the top of the policy table.

  2. Set up the Force SafeSearch content modification:
    1. Go to Guardian > Content modification > Manage policies.
    2. Create your new policy as follows:
      • Who: Everyone*
      • What: Everything
      • Where: Everywhere*
      • Action: Apply Force SafeSearch
      • Make sure you place the policy at the top of the policy table.

  3. Set up a custom category of Images to block:
    1. Go to Guardian > Policy Object > Categories.
    2. Under the Manage Categories section, type your category Name, for example, Blocked Images.
    3. For the image that you want to block, click on the image to expand it, then right-click on it and select the option to copy the image's URL:
    4. In the Domain/URL filtering section paste the image's URL and click Save.
    5. Go to Guardian > Web Filter > Policy Wizard.
    6. Create your new policy as follows:
      • Who: Everyone*
      • What: Blocked Images
      • Where: Everywhere*
      • When: Always*
      • Action: Block
      • * Change as appropriate

Note: Customers on a release before Leeds-1 also need to set up this content modification: QUIC removal.

Users can no longer view the blocked image:
